WhatsApp shows profile photos in a circle, so the corners are hidden. Fit places your whole photo inside the square with a border, so nothing important is cut off. Choose Fill to fill the square instead. WhatsApp doesn’t publish a size for status images. 1080 × 1920 px matches a phone screen.

What DPI should I use?
300 DPI is the usual print resolution and is what most photo requirements mean when they give a size in centimetres or inches. The DPI value is also saved inside JPG and PNG files.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. It works in modern mobile browsers, and iPhone HEIC photos open directly.
