Rules for the UPSC photo
- Your face fills at least three quarters of the photo, facing the front, with both ears visible and eyes open.
- Plain white background, natural expression, no shadows.
- No dark or coloured glasses, and no glare on normal glasses. Not in uniform, and not signed.
- UPSC also takes a live photo by webcam or phone and matches it with this one, so use a recent photo that looks like you today.
Rules checked in October 2026 from the UPSC photo and signature instructions (4 February 2026) (opens in a new tab). They can change with each new notice, so check the current one before you apply.
Exams: NEET, JEE Main, CUET, Bank Exams (IBPS, SBI), GATE, SSC Signature, Railway (RRB) Signature, PAN Card, Signature 10–20 KB, Bangladesh BCS and Philippines PRC.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does UPSC take a live photo as well?
It checks that the uploaded photo is really you. If the two don’t match, the application can’t go ahead, so upload a recent photo.
How do I fit three signatures in one image?
Sign three times, one below the other, on a plain white sheet. Photograph the sheet straight on, use Crop photo to trim the edges, then download.
Will my file be accepted?
The sizes come from the official notice linked on this page, and the badge shows when your file is inside the range. Rules change with each notice, so always check the current one before you submit.
Does it change my face or background?
No. It only crops, resizes and compresses, so your photo stays as it was taken.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. It works in modern mobile browsers, and iPhone HEIC photos open directly.
