DV entry photo size
- JPEG, square, 600 × 600 px, up to 240 KB.
- A scanned print must be 2 × 2 inches, scanned at 300 pixels per inch.
Rules for the DV photo
- Your head, chin to top of hair, is 50–69% of the photo’s height.
- Plain white or off-white background, in colour and in focus, taken within the last 6 months.
- Full face, neutral expression, eyes open, everyday clothes.
- No eyeglasses and no headphones. No hat unless worn daily for religion, with no shadows on your face.
- Don’t reuse a photo from a previous year’s entry. EditSpec only crops, resizes and compresses. It never changes your face or background, so the photo stays as it was taken.
DV-2027 registration has not opened yet. These rules are from the DV-2026 instructions, the latest published.
Rules checked in October 2026 from the DV-2026 instructions (opens in a new tab). They can change with each new notice, so check the current one before you apply.

- Zoom and drag so your face is centred, check the size, then download the JPG.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I wear glasses in my DV photo?
No. Eyeglasses aren’t allowed in Diversity Visa photos.
What background does a passport photo need?
Most countries ask for plain white or light grey. Check the rules for your country: some, such as Canada and the UK, don’t accept edited photos.
My application has a file size limit. What do I do?
Set it under File size. Online application cards already have the official limit, and the tool keeps the file inside it.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. It works in modern mobile browsers, and iPhone HEIC photos open directly.
