UK Visa photo size
- At least 600 × 750 px, portrait. This page uses 1200 × 1500 px.
- 50 KB to 6 MB, JPG.
Rules for the photo
- Your head, shoulders and upper body, on a plain light-coloured background.
- No filters. EditSpec only crops, resizes and compresses. It never changes your face or background, so the photo stays as it was taken.
Rules checked in October 2026 from the GOV.UK visa photo guidance (12 February 2026) (opens in a new tab). They can change with each new notice, so check the current one before you apply.
By country: Australia Citizenship, Canada Passport, Canada PR & Citizenship, Saudi eVisa, Singapore ICA, UK Passport, US 2 × 2 Inch, US Passport Renewal and US DV Lottery.
How it works
- Choose or drop a photo facing the camera.
- Pick your country, then the photo you need, such as a printed passport photo or an online application photo.
- Zoom and drag so your face is centred, check the size, then download the JPG.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the ETA use the same photo rules?
Yes. The ETA application links to the same visa photo guidance.
What background does a passport photo need?
Most countries ask for plain white or light grey. Check the rules for your country: some, such as Canada and the UK, don’t accept edited photos.
My application has a file size limit. What do I do?
Set it under File size. Online application cards already have the official limit, and the tool keeps the file inside it.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. It works in modern mobile browsers, and iPhone HEIC photos open directly.
