Schengen Visa Photo Size
- 35–40 mm wide, 45 mm high is standard. This page uses 35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI.
- Your face fills 70–80% of the photo.
- A plain, light background, in colour, taken within the last 6 months.
The same rules apply in every Schengen country. Most applications still hand in a printed photo at the appointment.
Requirements change often, and this page may not show the latest update. Always check the current instructions from the authority or exam body before you submit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the photo size the same for every Schengen country?
Yes. All Schengen countries follow the same ICAO photo rules, with a 35 × 45 mm photo as standard.
What background does a passport photo need?
Most countries ask for plain white or light grey. Check the rules for your country: some, such as Canada and the UK, don’t accept edited photos.
My application has a file size limit. What do I do?
Set it under File Size. Online application cards already have the file size limit, and the tool keeps the file inside it.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. It works in modern mobile browsers, and iPhone HEIC photos open directly.
